Yuga’s bug bounty program gives you the opportunity to earn rewards up to $10,000 for valid vulnerability reports that impact our services, websites, social accounts, and Discord servers. Helping us uncover anything that can cause disruption to our community – like taking over, manipulating content, or injecting arbitrary code into our websites – will result in a payout.

We care deeply about the security of our community, which is why we’ve been running this program on an invite only basis with a network of 800+ responsible hackers helping us identify and resolve security vulnerabilities since July. 

Now, we want to open the program to anyone, giving you the opportunity to earn rewards up to $50,000 for valid vulnerability reports that impact our services, websites, social accounts, and Discord servers. Helping us uncover anything that can cause disruption to our community – like taking over, manipulating content, or injecting arbitrary code into our websites – will result in a payout.

Yuga Labs launches its public bug bounty program through HackerOne.

Today marks a milestone for our IP, as we announce that Faraway is acquiring the LoTM and HV-MTL brands, incorporating them as preeminent collections in their current and future gaming products. These brands will, of course, remain closely connected to both Yuga and Otherside.

We’ve been in talks with Faraway for over a year now about the possibility of using our IP for games.  We started with a conversation around Legends of the Mara, which manifested the deeper gaming experience for Legends of the Mara: Rise. From there, we transitioned into a conversation around Dookey Dash as the mechanism to bring new users into Yuga’s interoperable gaming ecosystem, as well as the future plans for HV-MTL, Evo2, and Evo3.                                           

It became clear from the discussions that these IPs would accelerate under Faraway’s stewardship. By placing these gaming native brands under a company with true gaming DNA, they will have a more focused strategy around gaming-related activations, with dedicated resources to make them realize their full potential. Faraway has a proven track record, and an exciting vision that aligns with what we’ve always wanted to see realized for both these collections.

We’re working with Faraway to burn the 4,000+ unrevealed HVMTLs held in Yuga Labs wallet, and Amp minting will now be managed by them. They have unveiled a points system, and are already dedicating their time, energy, and resources to creating a community home for HV-MTL and LoTM in the Faraway Discord server.

Faraway will own the following collections: 

Yuga still owns Kodas, which remain a central collection for Otherside, but they’ll participate in  Faraway’s points system too. Otherside will serve as a core component of these brands, and we’re committed to working closely with the Faraway team to ensure interoperability.

As part of this exciting development, our Chief Gaming Officer Spencer Tucker will transition to the Faraway team as their Chief Product Officer to both bridge the two parties and accelerate the focus on these brands. Spencer has been instrumental in building Yuga’s gaming IP, and we will continue to work closely with him and the Faraway team. 

Interoperable assets are central to the strategies of both Yuga and Faraway, and this shift is a great example of how interoperability can work. We are confident that Farway will carry the torch for these collections, and I’m incredibly excited for what’s to come.

Per our announcement on X, starting February 27 we are sunsetting support for marketplaces who don’t support royalties for ALL creators. 

This means our collections with a royalty filter will only trade on royalty enforcing marketplaces.

Dear Voyagers, we would like to thank all 7,200+ of you and your guests who embarked on the Otherside 2nd Trip with us on March 25th, 2023. To pick up where 2nd Trip left off, it's time to introduce Legends of the Mara, a collection-based 2D strategy game with its own companion collection. Kodas are the primary keepers of Otherside. In Legends of the Mara, they are by far the most adept when it comes to farming, enchanting, and hunting. We’ll learn more about Kodas, including their origins and their primal relationship with Otherside, encounter some new apprentices in the form of the Mara, and learn more about the story of Otherside throughout LOTM.

The journey begins by claiming your Vessel -- each Otherdeed holder can claim one -- and decoupling Kodas from Otherdeeds in the near future. Vessels can grow into apprentices known as Mara, and under the right conditions with the right catalyst, can evolve into more skilled Kodamara. Both are capable helpers in the fight to defend Otherside, though their powers are greatly constrained when compared to the ancient Koda.

 Introducing Otherside: Legends of The Mara

Today we announced a partnership with streetwear brand, A BATHING APE® (BAPE®). 

Answering the question: what do you get when you put two apes together? This collection is true to our shared values of community, irreverence and chilled out opulence. Plus, I’m a big fan– and we know a lot of you are too– so it just made sense.

We’ve worked with BAPE® to reimagine iconic designs from their deep archive, with one foot in their Ura-Harajuku roots and the other in the BAYC swamp. 

This first collaboration is all about the community, where BAYC members and BAPE® Heads receive exclusive early access to the apparel and accessories in the limited edition collection. 

The collection makes its debut at ApeFest on November 4, where Apes can purchase onsite, or online with token-gated access. Then, it drops exclusively for BAPETAVERSE members online. Finally, in December the collection arrives at BAPE STORE® and BAPE.COM globally, where the public can access.

Spotted in the wild: two iconic Apes, cooking something up.

GM. It's been a challenging six months for us at Otherside. Building the platform and refining our long-term vision has been challenging. So is navigating high expectations, the need for speed, and maintaining flexibility to pivot when necessary.

I know we’ve been pretty quiet between our public playtests in LA, Berlin, and Hong Kong. But repeating “we’re building the plan” didn’t seem like new information to share. And I’ve been reluctant to say anything that would raise questions that we couldn’t answer. 

Of course I see that people are skeptical - if not downright pissed - from the lack of regular information on Otherside, especially those who are emotionally invested in Otherside’s success. So, there is a balancing act here, and this issue of balance is a slide right up front in our internal Otherside planning deck: 

“Build foundation” is what we have been doing and what we will focus heavily on this year. This means some work is going to sound pretty dull. Like, Otherside accounts with wallet connect, optimizing the existing environments to run at scale and setting parameters for the next environments, optimizing the Apes and Meebits and other avatars to be capable of better movement and expressive animation, and relentless work on infrastructure. 

What’s the big deal about that? Well, it actually is pretty awesome. It means that you can now set up a single Otherside account and identity, with access to your NFTs and wallets, and that account will be persistent across everything you do on Otherside, including earning badges, loot, social influence, and so much more. It means you’ll be able to play in environments and use avatars which are AAA game quality - unlike any of the stuff that exists in other metaverses today. And it means in time you will be able to play anytime, anywhere, and with thousands of friends across the world. So, yeah, it is a big deal in just a few short months. 

“Rapid release & iteration” means us getting features out, doing it as quickly as we responsibly can, and not holding up for polish where we don’t have to. We get it out in front of users and get constructive feedback, make changes, get it back out, and so on. That’s the Voyager’s Journey. It’s the fun part for you and the important feedback part for us. You see and experience Otherside as we build and you directly influence and shape what the platform becomes. This is what many are asking (loudly) for. BUT - if we do this without a sufficient platform foundation, then these releases will just be one-offs, and not connected to the larger development. That’s the balancing piece. 

Where does this month’s Apes Come Home fit in? It’s not a 3rd Trip. It’s not a polished, launchable public product. It’s another milestone in the journey to become the place where content creators, communities, and brands will come together. It’s the first time that all 10,000 Apes will have the ability to be played by their holders on the Otherside platform. It’s also the first time BAYC, Mutants, Otherdeed holders, Kodas, and the Grailed are able to create their official Otherside accounts and start down the road of more experiences. Hosting thousands of concurrent players on BAYC Island is going to be fun and exciting, but it is far from a “product”. It’s still just one experience which is meant to engage you and enlighten us. We hope to learn from Apes Come Home, as with the last few playtests, but we are also rapidly moving forward on other parts of Otherside. So where are we going from here in the near term? 

First, the “near term” in building something like Otherside is measured in years, not weeks or months. Everyone has to accept that objective reality. But that doesn’t mean we aren’t experimenting, launching, playing, and iterating with all of you and the broader public along the way. 

So, next?... We are working on Meebits 1.3 for this Spring. It’s going to be an event for Meebits on Meetropolis, but it’s also going to include other special guests and some new experimentation with what creators can do on Otherside. It is our hope that this experiment  starts to demonstrate the incredible power of Otherside for artists. With Proof, Moonbirds, and of course, the Punks, there are so many people with so much creativity to share. I view it as our privilege to work for them and expand their horizons on Otherside.

We are also well underway in building the entire 10,000 unique Koda collection in 3D. It’s extremely complicated and labor-intensive but these first inhabitants of Otherside, these magical beings with their unique narratives, are looking freaking KILLER. We’ll share work-in-progress on them over the coming months, but here’s a personal favorite in process.... 

In addition to Kodas, we’re also working on enabling other collections - from Yuga’s and others - to come into Otherside. Some of these will be newly modeled and rendered as 3D avatars, and we’re developing a configurable Voyager 2.0 which will have progression, metagame, and UGC aspects to empower a broader audience to engage on Otherside and embrace their individuality. 

We know the core place for individuality on Otherside, beyond the avatars and characters, is the Otherdeeds themselves. We are working on them and will experiment with our progress together with all of the Otherdeed holders later this year. We think we’ve broken through a path to accelerating Otherdeeds and we’ll share as we get further into it.

I think it’s important to take a beat and also clarify what we are not doing for now on Otherside. We are not making a competitive MMO that takes many years, many tens of millions of dollars, and has enormous risks. There are AAA game companies that have their thousands of employees working on these and other projects, and that red ocean isn’t one we want to swim in. 

We also recognize that building a system in which anyone can jump into our codebase and/or build a complex game on the platform is a multi-year, daunting proposition. However, we are going to enable users to take advantage of character and environment customization and engage in UGC this year. Further, we are going to enable users to customize casual games, and we have a path to build a system empowering trusted developers to develop games for Otherside. This means you could eventually get a game built. We’re trying this out with one developer now to launch our first games later this year. 

While we are building these UGC and similar tools, what we are really hearing from the  community is a strong desire to have more meaningful social interactions. People want to connect, share, flex, and have fun as a community. So we are going deep in evolving a social platform to enable our communities to have new ways to engage with each other. We are going to start trying it out with you all together during the coming months, starting with Apes Come Home.

Last thing I’ll add here is that I recognize that we can substantially improve our communications and engagement with our communities. Right after Apes Come Home this month, we are launching new communications commitments:  regular content, communications from me and others on the team, tech and feature demos of work in process, and more. We’re discussing frequent dev updates from otherside on X, Monthly blog updates on Yuga News, and a number of times throughout the year doing video / livestream updates with the Otherside team. I hope this benefits everyone going forward.

Amidst leadership changes at Yuga, I remain entirely committed to building Otherside more than ever. Over the past years, I have spent thousands of day and night hours obsessing over every iteration of building a metaverse that truly serves communities and creators. It’s been and remains my passion as well as obsession. I have the privilege of collaborating with phenomenal people who share this dream - the team at Yuga and the communities of you. I see the comments about an MMO and I spoke too loosely - the definitions are causing confusion. We are making an MMO. Specifically, we are incorporating the fundamental quality of an MMO with Otherside - shared experiences for many thousands of people in a persistent world. That is one side of what we are building. But the critical thing here is our path to developing Otherside. We need to get the foundations and early experiences up for everyone first (including games), and then we'll evolve that into something bigger. We have, and are, spending many tens of millions of dollars on Otherside. But rather than sinking that into a single unproven game loop, we are building the platform and iterative experiences FIRST to make sure we end up with something people love for years and incorporates the benefits of web3. We're not scaling back what Otherside can be... we're expanding.

A message from Eric Reid | General Manager, Otherside

I want to wish each and every one of you a happy and safe holiday season. 

Speaking of safety, I have been reflecting on what happened this past weekend. It was a sad weekend for the industry in general. So many people were impacted, including some of our long time community members. That was tough for us all to witness and worse for those impacted.

As Quit’s post outlined, we collaborated with Boring Security Company to find a swift and effective outcome. I was also inspired to see individuals who worked to help fix the security issue, provide each other with tips, and who are already starting to brainstorm long term solutions together. This shows the ecosystem can help solve these issues together for the betterment of all. 

I see this as a serious wake up call for all of us to be extremely vigilant and security cautious. Web3 holds the promise of empowering ownership without the need for centralized middlemen. To achieve that goal, each of us must be extremely vigilant and knowledgeable about security. 

We at Yuga want to support the ecosystem in being more security conscious and we are connecting with various players to explore possible approaches to improve awareness and solutions across the space. Our in-house Bug Bounty program, launched through HackerOne in December 2022, has awarded over $80,000 since inception. This program provides white hat hackers with rewards for uncovering valid vulnerability reports that impact our services, websites, social accounts, and Discord servers.   

In the meantime, it is important for all of us to be informed and that is why security training like the courses offered by Boring Security are really important. I’ll be putting some downtime to good use this holiday season and brushing up myself.

Boring Security Company collaborates with Yuga Labs to recover assets lost in a third party exploit.

Today, Yuga Labs announced a restructuring. Below is the email CEO Daniel Alegre sent to the organization. 

I have some difficult news to share. After a recent period of thoughtful consideration, I have decided that we need to restructure the Yuga Labs teams. The implication of these changes is that a number of roles have been eliminated across the company, impacting some of your colleagues.

It is always hard to see many talented colleagues depart, but I want to be transparent with you on the rationale behind the changes. 

When I joined Yuga six months ago, my first priority was to lay out a clear vision that focused our team on the creative storytelling and community building that is at the core of Yuga. I also went on a listening tour to understand every aspect of our business and ensure that the makeup of our team and our projects were aligned with our goals. I realized very quickly that there were a number of projects that, while well-intentioned, either spread the team too thin or required execution expertise beyond our core competencies.  

As part of this, I’ve spent a long time with the leadership team looking inward and being realistic about two core questions: Are we taking on too much ourselves, and should we gain from the strength of third parties?  

What I heard most over the course of these conversations was that to create truly amazing experiences that matter to our communities and our business, we need to place our bets on fewer key initiatives and team up with complementary external partners to make these experiences happen. We celebrated a number of initiatives and events this year like Dookey Dash, Twelvefold, Made by Apes, the Punks Legacy Project, brand activations with Gucci and BAPE, and IRL events in NY, Korea, Tokyo, Austin, Singapore, and Paris. And let’s not forget MAYC’s 2nd birthday in Miami. Yet, alongside these wins, there have been a few rocky rollouts, particularly in our gaming execution, because we learned along the way that we weren’t optimized to build and manage everything in-house, nor should we be.  We also know we need to make greater progress with the development of Otherside.

As we looked more thoroughly at the projects that no longer align with what we now consider our core priorities, we knew this shift would affect our organizational design.

Last week, our leadership team gathered in New York to define and solidify updated core competencies. This is what we will be focusing on moving forward:

We are committed to our communities, and we will continue to amplify and support their growth and engagement with our brands.

We are going all-in on our Otherside strategy. Every ongoing digital connection will be part of and reinforce the Otherside evolution. This encompasses gaming, entertainment experiences, interactive social connections, and a range of unique initiatives coming from Eric Reid and team.

While we laser focus our internal development efforts on those things only Yuga can do, like our web3 platform components and Otherside, we will continue to build complementary long-term partnerships that will help us realize our mission to build culture on the blockchain. 

BAYC: Our teams will support the expansion of “Made by Apes'' and other projects aimed at empowering club members worldwide, as we continue to cultivate the culture and creativity of our community. We understand the importance of “early BAYC vibes” and are committed to keeping that energy moving forward, starting with ApeFest Hong Kong in a few weeks. Finally, we’ll also be launching a major, versatile, and continuous gaming experience scheduled for 2024 and beyond. 

CryptoPunks: The team will dedicate their resources to solidifying and celebrating the crypto art legacy of the collection through education (including the upcoming book), improving and streamlining the Punks app, and continuing to create engaging experiences. 

Meebits and 10KTF: These teams will become part of Otherside. This does not mean that the creative storytelling opportunities for these brands have disappeared. On the contrary, there is so much to accomplish in Otherside, and Meebits is a collection built for the metaverse, while the 10KTF shop will finally have a permanent home. 

The Otherside team will build out new gaming experiences into 2024 through third-party partnerships. 2024 will be the year we will showcase the Otherside platform with live experiences that our communities and partners will love.

We are aware that we haven't been building in public as often as we had wanted, and to address that, we're going to start providing regular development updates in the coming weeks.

We have announced a steady drumbeat of partnerships recently, including Hadean, Bad Rhino, OMA3, Accelbyte, and Faraway.  There will be more to come. I believe that these partnerships are crucial to our rapid and effective growth, allowing us to concentrate on what we do best. We will also continue to build out our brand partnerships, including with partners such as Gucci, A Bathing Ape, and more to extend new engagement opportunities within the communities we serve.

Above all else, my top priority during this transition is to ensure that those leaving Yuga are treated with the respect and gratitude they deserve. We are committed to providing them with all the support they need. Our transition package includes generous severance, COBRA coverage, and assistance in finding new job opportunities. Meetings with US-based impacted employees have been calendared for today and we are currently conducting meetings with impacted employees, their department heads, and our People Team. 

I understand that any role changes or eliminations can be tough, and it's natural to have strong emotions, whether you're directly affected or not. Saying goodbye to colleagues is never easy, especially when it involves talented and dedicated team members who have played a significant role in shaping Yuga. I want to express my heartfelt thanks for your hard work and dedication. We will do everything we can to help those impacted through this transition, and we will provide more details during an upcoming All Hands meeting. Keep an eye on your calendars for that.

It's a challenging time, not only for our industry but also for the global economy. We must stay focused on our core strengths as we continue to create unique, engaging experiences for the broader Yuga audience. The restructure today impacts US team members, and we are actively reviewing the impact on our international teams.

I strongly believe that Yuga will forever change how consumers and brands interact. We have built a powerful brand by granting IP rights, something that was considered impossible in the media and entertainment industry until we came along. Yuga Labs is announcing a restructuring that will better focus our team on our core priorities.

An experimental 300-piece collection from Yuga Labs on the Bitcoin blockchain

Today we announced an original and experimental 300-piece generative art collection inscribed onto satoshis that will live on the Bitcoin blockchain: TwelveFold. 

Satoshis are the smallest individually identifiable units of a Bitcoin. An inscribed satoshi can be located by tracking when that satoshi was minted in time via the Ordinal Theory protocol. Inspired by this, our collection explores the relationship between time, mathematics, and variability.

When measuring time, the calculation base used is not uniform and varies from base 60 (60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour) to base 12 (12 months in a year) and so on.

TwelveFold is a base 12 art system localized around a 12x12 grid, a visual allegory for the cartography of data on the Bitcoin blockchain.

The collection includes highly-rendered 3D elements as well as hand-drawn features which serve as an homage to the ordinal inscriptions currently done by hand. 

All of these choices are a departure from what’s expected from Yuga.

But, you know. Fuck doing expected things.

Bitcoin is a fungible digital currency, but a Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP) described a method, called inscribing, that allows creators to connect data to an individual satoshi (1/100,000,000th of a Bitcoin) and host metadata (particularly the artwork) on-chain. In effect, this enables satoshis to operate as if they are non-fungible, essentially enabling the concept of NFTs on the Bitcoin blockchain.

Stepping into the Ordinals Discord a month ago felt like getting a glimpse of the 2017-era Ethereum NFT ecosystem. It’s the type of energy and excitement we love at Yuga. 

The infrastructure and tooling around inscriptions (or NFTs) on Bitcoin is rapidly progressing, but is still incredibly nascent. Much of the foundational principles that we look for are here: provenance, self-custody, ownership – but the tooling and structure we’ve become accustomed to with Ethereum NFTs isn’t present.

We expect this technology and the ecosystem around it to evolve and become more sophisticated over time, however, we don’t expect it to evolve in the same ways other blockchain NFT ecosystems have.

We’re excited about ordinal inscriptions and what the future holds for digital artifacts on Bitcoin.

In February, we launched TwelveFold, a collection of 300 unique generative art pieces on the Bitcoin blockchain (holders, there’s something coming your way soon).

Now, we’re bringing TwelveFold to life in a new way through a collection of 13 cipher puzzles inspired by the artwork and open to all. TwelveFold holders, Bitcoin OGs, and puzzlers alike can take on this challenge for a chance at the prizes.

Starting today, we’ll be releasing one Moon Puzzle every week for the next twelve weeks. Each has a prize of 0.12 BTC for the first to solve it. On the thirteenth week, we unlock a final puzzle — the Sun Puzzle. The prize is a unique Twelvefold piece.

The TwelveFold puzzles stay true to the inspiration behind the collection — the relationship between time, mathematics, and variability. TwelveFold is a base 12 art system localized around a 12x12 grid, a visual allegory for the cartography of data on the Bitcoin blockchain. The 300 pieces are inscribed onto satoshis, the smallest individually identifiable units of a Bitcoin. 

Any inscribed satoshi can be located via Ordinal Theory, a protocol that assigns unique serial numbers to and then tracks satoshis. (Each satoshi also has a unique “name” made up of letters that correspond to its serial number).

Using Ordinal Theory as the foundation for these puzzles wasn’t easy. Cryptographically verifying answers is possible on the Ethereum network via Etherscan, but that option doesn’t exist on Bitcoin. And creating a facsimile of Etherscan didn’t feel appropriate for this project. So we worked with Gamma.io to come up with a solution. 

Following the Ordinals protocol, we’ll have people submit answers by inscribing them on satoshis. (If you’re new to Bitcoin inscriptions, the tutorials here will guide you through the process). 

Befitting the universal inspiration behind TwelveFold, the puzzles themselves are for everyone. (Yes, this means many of the people working on these puzzles are being onboarded to Bitcoin, so let’s give them a warm welcome.)

Once you’ve submitted an answer, you’ll send a Bitcoin fee (likely ~$4-$8 worth depending on network traffic) to the address that appears in order to inscribe your answer onto a satoshi.

You get the idea. Whichever wallet you have, we’ll use your submitted Bitcoin to inscribe your answer on a satoshi and then check that answer for accuracy. More tutorials (and other helpful info) can be found in the FAQ. 

The first person with the correct answer inscribed is the winner for that puzzle. If two people submit the right answer in the same Bitcoin block, we’ll accept the answer with the lower inscription number.

Yuga Labs launches TwelveFold, a limited edition of 300 generative pieces inscribed on satoshis on the Bitcoin Blockchain.

Otherside is an incredibly ambitious project – a bold vision of an interoperable metaverse that is built in large part by the community, a digital world where you can bring your NFT to life as a playable avatar, meet up with friends, and most importantly, have a fun, weird time.

Voyagers ventured into Otherside this year with First Trip, with nearly 5,000 concurrent users joining up with Curtis and Blue to face off against a corrupted giant Koda. Next year Voyagers will continue their journey with more trips and opportunities to make their mark as a persistent metaverse experience comes into view. 

This blog serves as a quick end-of-year update for the community. In the coming weeks and months, we’ll be posting regularly, so stay tuned for that. 

Recently, we brought on our Chief Gaming Officer, Spencer Tucker. Spencer joined us from Scopely, where he was President of Games. He’s been at the forefront of the free-to-play movement that revolutionized gaming, back when everyone thought that wouldn’t be a thing. 

Spencer has built an incredibly talented team that has worked at places like Disney, Activision, EA, Netflix, and Zynga, shipping games for major franchises like Medal of Honor, Disney Infinity, Lord of the Rings, Deer Hunter, and Marvel. 

Next year we'll welcome Daniel Alegre, Yuga’s new CEO who is joining us from Activision Blizzard. We’re excited to bring Daniel’s experience and expertise to help stretch the boundaries for what is possible for Otherside and offer new ways for Voyagers to deepen their participation in the development of Otherside.

Improbable has a veteran team working on the underlying tech of Otherside. Their team members have contributed to some of our favorite games, including League of Legends, Call of Duty, Elite Dangerous, Battlefield, Ark: Survival, and Burnout. Improbable also has a team hard at work on the broader web3 tooling for the M2 network, which they plan to tease more info about soon. 

We all want to see our PFPs brought to life. This is a complex technical hurdle; it’s more than just adding some legs. 

We’re laying the foundation for a tool that accounts for avatars of all shapes, sizes, faces, heights, accessories, and motion specifications. 

Users should be able to enter Otherside, connect their wallet, and then instantly start playing as their NFT. If you have a BAYC, MAYC, or Meebit, this won’t require a lift on your end. However, creators of all stripes should be able to create and play as their own unique avatars, in a world that can be as intimate or densely populated with other users as they desire. A few other collections are working to get their avatars Otherside-ready as well, more news on that soon.  

In partnership with Improbable, we’ve taken steps toward the Avatar portion of the Otherside Development Kit (ODK). This will be a suite of tools to enable creators to build and customize avatars.

It’s important Otherside doesn’t only cater to a technically savvy audience; we’ve heard from the community of all skill levels that they want to be able to express themselves with in-game building tools similar to the ones you’ll find in some of our favorite sandbox games like Fallout 4 or 7 Days to Die. And we are working with Improbable and Voyagers to do just that. Here’s a sneak peek at what some of that looks like:

More technically savvy users and teams will be able to use the ODK. It unlocks endless possibilities for creativity and harnesses the power of the Unreal Engine. This is a highly flexible tool. It includes game “templates” that will be baseline experiences that range across many different game types. There are opportunities here to build vastly contrasting experiences, ranging from mini- and physics-based games, to ones that are extremely deep and complex. Developers can choose to create for small, intimate spaces or opt for the thousand-player social experiences made possible on an Otherdeed plot.

On the topic of customization, Voyagers will be able to name and start crafting the story of their  Otherdeed and see this info reflected on the Otherside atlas starting early in the new year. 

And if you didn’t already guess from the artwork on the Otherdeeds themselves, these environments are going to be fucking beautiful. The creative teams are hard at work on the biomes of Otherside, and we’re incredibly stoked about the results. Today, we got our first look at an in-engine version of a Bone environment. Here’s a sneak peek at some more process artwork showing Bone, Spires, and Crystal environments.

Second Trip is coming in late March of 2023. There will be new environments, new mechanics, and an even higher concurrency of users than what we all experienced in First Trip.

Second Trip will be a huge step for Otherside and will be more gamified and high energy. The introduction of these new spaces and mechanics will make for a far richer experience, and enable the space to open much more frequently. 

Customizable avatars will not be ready yet for Second Trip, but there’s a fun solution for those who want to enter with an NFT. Stay tuned for details on that. 

Also, there might be flying. Just because. 

Otherside is a harsh place, and, as it turns out, we’re not alone there. Traversing the desert of a Bonedeed, Curtis, Blue, and a Voyager discover a glowing, pulsing stone...

Beginning in Q1 of 2023 and continuing throughout the year, a series of activations will be coming online introducing users to some of the other inhabitants of Otherside. This is an important milestone in the Voyager’s Journey. There will be ways to follow, and play along. Some of these experiences will occur inside Otherside, while others will be playable, interactive site-based experiences designed to help you build up your arsenal of entitlements before Otherside launches broadly.

You've taken the club to new heights by using the license to your BAYC and MAYC images to make your own projects and products, from clothes and food, to games and music, and beyond. You've said "fuck it" and put out some of the most entertaining, delicious, bizarre, and imaginative projects and products out there — in web3, online, and IRL.

Now, we're making it easier to understand the rights associated with owning an ape, discover (and verify) ape-made projects and products, connect with other builders, and get inspired to make your own cool shit. 

Introducing Made by Apes, a platform for BAYC and MAYC holders to request to use the “Made by Apes” logo for projects that incorporate their apes. A license allows you to use a Made by Apes logo with a unique license number that, thanks to our partner SaaSy Labs, is recorded on-chain. Making the license blockchain-verifiable was an essential piece of this project — SaaSy's innovative solution makes it possible for your ape to build a history of its commercial use and for anyone to identify a legit ape creation.

Soon, all valid licenses will also be included in a directory (The Bodega) that showcases what apes have built.

The official directory is live pulling from on-chain MBA licenses to display all the Bored Ape and Mutant Ape creations in one place. Keep your eyes peeled as more Licenses are approved and added to the Bodega.

That’s right: the first 30 MBA licenses have been approved and are out in the wild. Look for the MBA logo and unique license number, then go ahead and support your fellow apes. As license requests continue to come in, we’ll continue to send out approvals, expanding our community of builders along the way. We’ll also be showing off some of the latest MBA projects at ApeFest Hong Kong — so if you’d like a chance to be featured, get those license requests in. Introducing Made by Apes — made for a club full of builders

BAPE® X BAYC linked up to take their fans back to the early 2000s when streetwear brands were more avant garde and didn’t take themselves too seriously. The collection is brought to life in an array of apparel, footwear, and accessories that are loud, irreverent, and reminiscent of the laid back opulence that both brands embody.
